VLOG @ national day

Last Thursday was national day, the day that celebrates Singapore's independance from Malaysia. Singaporeans being their patriotic selves, anticipate this day with unquenched anxiety all year, so when the moment finally comes the entire population heads for the marina to admire the military parade and enjoy fireworks. Enjoy great filmwork by M. Loïc Tous.

As for us,  we went to see a singaporean movie, "881", a musical about two girls (the papaya sisters: big papaya and little papaya) who want to be getai singers, they are aided in their quest by a mute man with a chicken, a crazy woman from Guangzhou, and her twin who happens to be the getai goddess. Their arch-rivals are the durian sisters : lustful jealous eurasian whores ; in everyway opposed to our two heroins : poor chinese women who have managed to remain good, pure, virgins. The film itself was fun, very ironic, and changed moods to end end on a very sad note. Despite the songs being a little repetitive, the film had a great singaporean morale: sex and cigarettes lead to death.

By mistake we had decided to go with a group of NUS students lead by the "crap" sayer from the orientation meeting. Turns they were despicable individuals. All of them. So we got lost, stayed stuck at a mall as the military parade blocked access to roads, got lost again, I ran back to the mall to find Morten and Florence, we got lost, sweaty, found our way, arrived at the waterfront just in time for the fireworks. Phew.

We then walked a long time in a crowd and lost more people. I was happy to get back. Took guarana, vitamin C, coffee, rebull, and worked all night. My chinese test the next day started at 10:00 am. Looking back, national day wasn't all that good, but that day itself was extraordinary.

Sorry to ommit that element. As we walked back from the bay we crossed a few parks surronded by tall buildings. People were all heading the same way and at some point we crossed a small illuminated chinese bridge. We took an instant to contemplate our surroundings, overlooked by the bright skyscrapers of the singapore central business district, our view funnelled by the stream lead to the bay decorated for national day festivities. A slight breeze tickled our hair. It was magical.

You didn't mention the magical view when you're standing on the bridge... ;)
